On Tuesday, after months of scandal about his finances, Nigel Farage tried to withdraw the initiative. He revealed that he was resigning as an MP to force a by-election in his Clacton seat – allowing “the people” to back him against the “establishment”.
But, as the Guardian’s political correspondent Ben Quinn Turns out, things may not have gone according to plan. All of Reform’s political rivals announced that they would not participate in Farage’s “stunt”, leaving him with the prospect of a six-week campaign against novelty candidate Count Binface.
