Usually when I hear about a party thrown by the most famous person in the world, I don’t immediately think that someone like me should be there. What does Come to think of it, this delusional idea happens when the guest list includes people I’ve met, interacted with and shared space with, even if only once or twice. That is: writer. Literary folk. People who (occasionally) attend the same media events as me (like when Danielle Haim and I were on the same event paris review Party Last Autumn). The distance between me and Taylor Swift may be vast, yet it has never narrowed since I read her guest list.
People don’t usually become writers to become famous. But maybe they should! Here’s a list of every litterateur who attended Taylor Swift’s wedding. For obvious reasons, we can’t count the hundreds of attendees who have written a celebrity memoir, but from there the rules get a little more murky. Let’s start with the most obvious literary guest:

jadie smith
The author who set me on this chain of thought: Author of white teeth He is unquestionably one of the most famous novelists in the world, but notably (for our purposes here), he hasn’t done much work in the general entertainment industry. She mostly writes books. But she is also a lady about town who is always invited to spectacular events: she has even attended met galaWhere she and Taylor apparently “rubbed shoulders.” Of any writer, trust Zadie Smith to rub shoulders with a pop star ten years ago and then get invited to his wedding. She is also a good friend and supporter of Swift’s longtime friend Lena Dunham, and perhaps this relationship has led to their circle Venn diagram.

jenny han
Once upon a time, Jenny Han was just a YA author. The word “just” should be taken lightly, as she was the creator of two of the most successful YA book series in recent history, To all the boys I’ve loved beforeAnd I became beautiful in summer. His star skyrocketed when it was adapted into I became beautiful in summer-which she was the co-showrunner of- became a hit. The show included several Taylor Swift songs, apparently due to a personal request Han is made of swift. It’s rare when Swift licenses her songs for TV and film, and usually it’s because of the special connection the singer feels with the work: It makes sense that Swift and Hahn have formed a friendship (or something) based on this mutual admiration.
glenon doyle
Glennon Doyle may have already been a name before her memoirs (I think she was some kind of Christian mom blogger/influencer), but I doubt Taylor Swift already knew about her. indomitable Took over the bestseller charts. Doyle became a literary phenomenon: a writer who managed to write a memoir so distinctive and universal that the whole world, even Taylor Swift, knew her name. In 2020, Swift cited reading the book and said it was a “Big help” Him.

Ronan Farrow
Certainly celebrity-linked from the start, the son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen (so they say), but in his own right: he’s just a magazine writer. He’s just like us! Just kidding. But he is a solid literary personality, both New Yorker Staff writer and best-selling author. Apparently Taylor Swift in 2020 wrote him a letter about his book catch and kill. It turns out that 2020 was a great year to be a bestselling author: The odds were at their highest that Taylor Swift would personally correspond with you. (Maybe, like us, she’s stuck inside and reaching out to everyone.)

Ethan Hawke
Ethan Hawke has been a famous movie star since the late 80’s, but in another life I can see him as a struggling writer, Hiding in an attic for an eternity working on his great American novel. The good news is that in real life, he managed to write not one but four novels, in addition to his extensive list of directing and acting credits. She is a rare combination of a dreamy, romantic poet’s personality and Taylor Swift-like productivity. hHe has been famous since he was a teenager, yet he still appeared to retain that true spark of creativity. I hope everyone has seen him speaking poetically same topicThat motivates me to no end.

Now that we’ve reached the end of this brief collection of names, we can both wonder why there weren’t more writers on that staggering guest list. We heard that Travis identifies himself as someone “Can’t really read that well”But Taylor is a self-proclaimed book lover. Maybe writers aren’t that much fun at parties? Could Zadie Smith be the only literary girl who can let loose?
If it were you, which writers would you invite to your wedding of thousands? Personally, I’m thinking of Patricia Lockwood, who I think would give a great speech, David Sedaris who would be ideal to sit next to, and George Saunders, who seems like a really nice guy.
