I’ve never bought a whole car on eBay, but I’ve bought and sold all kinds of other things. It seems safer and more legitimate than Facebook Marketplace. The main downside of selling on eBay is its heavy fee structure. Fortunately, eBay Motors does not charge car sellers a “final value fee” like it does for other items. For listings, you’ll typically pay around $34 to list a car under $15,000 or $79 for a car over that price. But from now until the end of the month, you can skip it and list it for free.

Word to the wise: There are still some specific scenarios where you may still face fees that should be kept in mind:
- Deposit Processing Fee: If you require the buyer to pay an advance deposit through eBay’s checkout to secure the vehicle (which is very common), eBay charges a 2.8% processing fee on the deposit amount. For example, if you need to deposit $500, eBay will put $14.00, and you will receive $486.00.
- Optional Upgrades: Promotions applicable exclusively to the base listing fee. If you choose to add premium optional upgrades to your listing (beyond those included in the standard 40-photo listing package) or if you have a standard store membership fee, they do not qualify for the discount.
