Lincoln recalls new hybrids for unexpected shifts to neutral
  • Lincoln is recalling 248 new hybrid SUVs in Canada due to unexpected shifts into neutral
  • Driver may notice a wrench light come on in the instrument cluster if defect is present
  • Affected vehicles will have the integrated parking module replaced at the dealership

Lincoln is recalling 248 hybrid SUVs in Canada, and another 11,623 in the U.S., due to some newer vehicles shifting into neutral unexpectedly. The problem stems from the integrated parking module (IPM), which will need to be replaced if a vehicle is affected by this issue; according to recall documents provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defect is present in 100% of the recalled vehicles. The recall affects specific newer models, including the 2027 Lincoln Corsair and 2026 and 2027 Lincoln Nautilus; note that only the hybrid models are being recalled.

The recall documents explain that an anti-rust oil was used during assembly, and that specific oil can get into the integrated park module, which can cause corrosion in the transmission module and degrade the circuit board. If that happens, the readings on that board may be wrong, and the vehicle can shift into neutral while the vehicle is being driven and without warning. If this happens, there can be a sudden loss of power, which can increase the risk of a crash. The NHTSA report also includes that an owner may experience the opposite, and lose the ability to shift into drive after the vehicle has been parked.

Transport Canada says there may be some warning signs, including a wrench light on the instrument cluster display, as well as “Service Vehicle Soon” or “Shifting System Error”; however, that warning sign may appear right before the shift happens, without enough time to even recognize the icon.

Owners will be notified by mail and advised to take their vehicle to a Ford-Lincoln dealership to have the integrated parking module replaced, free of charge.
