The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the world’s premier automotive gathering, showcasing some of the rarest, oldest, wildest and loudest cars and motorcycles. But every once in a while, something really special graces the 13th Duke of Richmond’s driveway. This year, it’s Lightning McQueen awesomeness.
Unfortunately, Mr. Ka-Chou hasn’t actually been competing on the hill for some time, meaning his appearance is purely for entertainment. And, okay, I have to admit that it’s definitely entertaining to see it lined up with some serious race cars on the starting line. I’m sure there are some serious car guys who think this is silly, but hey, you shouldn’t take life so seriously.
As commentators point out, when the original Cars movie came out in the summer of 2006, it was a huge cultural movement for cars and motorsports. Pixar did a great job with all the references, cars, racing stories, and the stars/voices behind the characters. I mean, it features Michael Schumacher for Pete’s sake.
You can see Mr. McQueen driving up the hill Here Or in the video embedded below, but you’ll have to fast forward to 2:58.00 to see it. Or, you can look at all the other great cars that came before and after this one – like Kimi Antonelli in a neat Mercedes.
And if you’re curious about McQueen’s real-life aerial performance, you’ll want to read on.
