Released during Watches & Wonders in Geneva last April, it is part of a collection of four pieces, each of which has a different dial color representing a cardinal direction of the compass: brown for South, white for both, blue for East, and on Mayer’s watch – green for West.

The Cardinal Points sub-collection debuted as a limited edition 2021 Overseas Dual Time called “Everest”. That watch was modeled after a special titanium and tantalum watch made for photographer Corey Richards, who brought the watch with him when he climbed Everest in 2019. After taking that watch to the Roof of the World, Richards returned it to Vacheron, who auctioned it off at Phillips’ Game Changers charity auction. Although its estimated price was $20,000 to $40,000, the watch fetched $106,250, with the proceeds benefiting Richards’ longtime partner, the National Geographic Society.
Not only with its history of exploration, but also its association with philanthropic causes, the Overseas Dual Time seemed a particularly fitting choice for Mayer’s wrist as she received the Philanthropist of the Year award. Heart & Armour, which he co-founded and of which he is Chairman of the Board, is dedicated to veterans’ issues such as PTSD, sleep health and civilian-veteran engagement, and has built a portfolio of more than $13M in scientific research. What better accessory to accompany that than one that is already benefiting one of the world’s leading scientific organizations?
