Walking out of the house wearing Tudor’s new Black Bay Chrono felt like walking out of the garage behind the wheel of a vintage sports car. When I first glimpsed the yellow and black “Bumblebee,” my mind came to mind of an attention-grabbing New York City taxi or even a large school bus. But having it on your wrist was a completely different experience. It was a time to go Fast; It is no coincidence that its dial matches that of this Porsche 911 whose color is described as “sexy yellow” That’s a Neanderthal way of describing this watch, but Tudor had a habit of blowing my mind during my few days of test-driving it.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a better companion for summer 2026 than Bumblebee. What I’m looking for in a Watch of the Summer (WATCH) candidate is a bright, sunny disposition; A steel construction that can handle the elements; Nothing else so It’s so expensive that I want to treat it as carefully as a newborn baby. Hey, Little Tank, can we go to the beach? The best summer watches are those that are able to accompany you on the unexpected adventures of the season. Bumblebee performs strongly in each of these categories.
Tudor released the Bumblebee earlier this month, adding it to its “Daring” collection along with versions of the watch with bright pink and turquoise blue dials. I’m glad to see Tudor moving out of South Beach for this latest edition. But more than just the look, the most dramatic and significant changes to the watch aren’t visible via JPG.
Normally, I wouldn’t condone bullying, but it clearly works in the watch industry. The first version of this Tudor had a length of 41 mm, which is a classic size for a modern sport watch (for example, the current version of the Rolex Submariner comes in at 41). However, over the past few years a growing number of horror fanatics have begun to tip the scales toward thicker pieces. At Watches & Wonders 2026 – the industry’s biggest trade show, where many of the biggest brands show off their new releases for the year – I felt like every meeting I attended involved a modified, smaller version of an existing tentpole. This is one of the most obvious ways in which I have seen that the watch and fashion industries work differently. While runway shows strive to introduce something new that you didn’t even know you wanted, watch brands are more than happy to take collector feedback into account.
The new Black Bay Chrono is another result of fan service in the watch industry. The watch has dropped by just a few millimeters, going from 41mm to 39mm. It doesn’t seem like much, but for me, it’s the difference between the Chrono hanging slightly on the edge of my wrist and sitting right there. (Compare this to this image of me wearing the 41mm “Flamingo Blue” version last year.)
