Rab Neutrino Sleeping Bag Review

Why did we give the Rab Neutrino the top spot among this year’s crop of new bags (besides the cool name)? Plain and simple, it works. Available in 32-, 20-, 10-, and 0-degree models, the Neutrino is a versatile, all-mountain down bag built for bucket-list Himalayan treks, ski hut trips, or simply car camping in the desert.
At its core is Rab’s LOFT 3D technology, the brand’s most advanced baffle construction to date. Twisted, helix-shaped baffles hold the 800-filled European swans in place, preventing migration and keeping the loft stable rather than clumping in places. The down is hand-filled in Derbyshire, UK, and treated with a fluorocarbon-free hydrophobic finish so it maintains its loft even when humid.
This is premium territory, but it’s in line with other hand-filled 800-fill bags on the market, and significantly less than Rab’s own ultralight Mythic line.
Rab Neutrino Sleeping Bag First Impressions
We tested the 20-degree Neutrino over a mountain biking and rafting weekend outside Vernal, UT, camping at McCoy Flats and Split Mountain Canyon—dinosaur country, home of Dinosaur National Monument. The bag proved to be just as impressive, with every compartment tested for warmth, comfort and weight.

The LOFT 3D baffles were extraordinary. Longitudinal chest and sidewall baffles enhance thermal efficiency and side-sleeping comfort, aided by an internal cord lock placed below the collarbone. The fitted hood and 3D down collar keep your head comfortable, while a wide, structural foot box lets tired feet stretch rather than remain crammed in – a welcome relief after a day in hiking boots or bike shoes.
The slim mummy fit still opens easily via two-way YKK ¾-length zipper with insulated baffle – no drafts. At just 1 pound, 14 ounces, it’s light enough to take into the high alpine. It provided everything from crash time to coffee, even when an April storm dropped nighttime temperatures to 29 degrees, sending many campmates fleeing for their cars.

At $500, the Neutrino 20 isn’t cheap, but its price is in line with serious 800-fill bags across the range, and it earns back that in versatility. Some bags handle alpine treks, hut trips and lazy car camping equally well without any compromises. If you want a bag to last in your gear wardrobe for years, this is one of the smartest purchases you’ll make this year.
