At this point, we can all agree that Colman Domingo is just as talented at pulling off wild red carpet fits (see: Oscars, Golden Globes, Met Gala) as he is at bringing complex characters to life on screen (see: Excitement, disclosure day, michael). Whether he’s fashionable from head to toe or strolling down Tribeca in jeans and a tank top, Domingo has the rare ability to look extremely put-together and extremely comfortable at the same time. Such was the case earlier this week, when he was photographed while on his way to host Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wearing a crisp white tee and jeans.
Under normal circumstances, a white T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans is as reliable a combo as pancakes and maple syrup, but it’s not a look people associate with god-level style. However, as always, Domingo made it his own, dialing in the details to create something worth much more than the sum of its parts.

From the start, it’s worth noting that, as Valentino’s house ambassador, Domingo has a lot of attractive clothes at his disposal, and he drew liberally from the house of Garavani for this look. That said, head-to-toe designer fit isn’t a slam dunk by any means, and Domingo’s ability to make it look insanely cool reflects his uncanny ability to look good in whatever he wears.
For starters: T. It doesn’t matter whether it’s from the Lady White company or the Kirkland Multipack, the fit is what matters and the Domingo made it fit snug, but not skin-tight. Similarly, the jeans are also cut to perfection, with a slight flare unlike the tee. However, what really pulls this look together are the accessories: the thin belt, the chain, the nailcoat tote, the teeny Omega constellation. None of these details draw attention to themselves, but, like any one of the many great casts of which Domingo has been a part, each has an important role. Even the oxblood penny loafers (worn with socks, it’s worth noting) vary enough in color from the belt to keep things from looking too matchy-matchy.
If there’s any lesson to be learned from Domingo’s summer uniform, it’s that even the best dressers know how to look good in a T-shirt and jeans. Or, if you want to be really philosophical about it, that the simplest things can also be the most complex.
