Sometimes there was a danger of everything becoming too much. Alcock remembers one particular example when she was in Paris for the Loewe show last year. Her car was stuck in traffic on the Eurostar ride home, so she got out to walk the short distance to the train station. “Your skin goes red – you feel really vulnerable,” Alcock says, before she even glances at the autograph seekers, she can feel them. “They were following me. Like, there were 10 of them, and I was alone. And they kept following me, and some of the people in the public said, ‘What are you doing? Leave this girl alone.'”
Alcock sprinted through the Gare du Nord; They continued with him till the security post. “I couldn’t stop trembling. Compared to what other people get and how things are going to change, this is nothing,” she argues, even though it really feels like something. “That’s the fear. I don’t want to live in a glass house, but that’s the price.”
Until now, Alcock’s life had never moved so fast. She lives in a quiet area of East London, where she moved in 2020 to play a younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen. Dragon’s house. Alcock no longer keeps news out of Westeros. “I’m not really a sci-fi girl, to be honest,” she confesses. “As a consumer it’s not really my world, but as a participant it was really fun.”
There have been unsuccessful attempts to bring the Girl of Steel to the screen over the years, but Safran told me that he and Gunn were looking for a “Supergirl for the next generation” who would play an important role in the DCU. Alcock’s audition was one of the first to be watched. When she later came to Safran and Gunn to screen-test with Nogueira and DC executive vice president Chantal Nong Vo, she won them over.
“Chantal was just babbling,” remembers Safran. “She was crying a lot at the screen test, because it was a very emotional scene, but she was also crying over how great Millie was in the role.”
