HousingWire has won a Signal Award for Best Daily podcast in 2026. This year’s program honors podcasts that take creative risks: work that breaks format, takes on hard subjects or finds a new way to reach listeners. Editor in Chief Sarah Wheeler, Lead Analyst Logan Mohtashami and Podcast Producer Rebakah Black were recognized.
HousingWire Dailystarted in 2020 as a short daily news recap, expanding to its current format later that year. In 2021, Wheeler began hosting the podcast regularly and Mohtashami made his debut as a guest.
Today, HousingWire Daily gets more than 1.4 million downloads a year and often ranks in the top 15 business news podcasts nationwide. Mohtashami now joins Wheeler four days a week to discuss housing economics.
The podcast has helped us build a real
“The podcast has helped us build a real community of housing professionals who make us part of their lives every day,” Wheeler said. “To be recognized by Signal on top of that is a huge honor.”
HousingWire provides news, data and analysis for all facets of housing, including mortgage, real estate, homebuilding, title, appraisal and capital markets. Reporters and editors from the HousingWire newsroom are frequent guests on the podcast, along with industry leaders.
Mohtashami’s presence as a guest and now de facto co-host provides listeners with vital commentary on what’s happening with the 10-year yield and mortgage rates, delivered with generous amounts of pop-culture references.
The country needed someone to tell the truth
“The country needed someone to tell the truth about housing economics — someone who uses actual data instead of doom or fear,” Mohtashami said. “Sarah and I provide that on a consistent basis. That kind of information can be dry, but our style makes it fun, entertaining and informative, to help people understand what’s really happening.”
Winners are selected by The Signal Awards Judging Academy made up of the architects, instigators and trailblazers of the medium. “Podcasting is no longer defined by a single format, platform or approach to storytelling, and this year’s submissions make that evolution impossible to ignore,” said Jemma Brown, GM of The Signal Awards. “Charts and download counts can only tell us what’s popular. At Signal, our role is to notice the creative risks that are quietly changing what everyone else makes next. This year’s winners offer a first look at podcasting’s next chapter.”
