The last vestiges of Honda’s electric car efforts in the US are coming to an end – after just two years on sale, the Honda Prologue will be discontinued after the 2026 model year. in a statement to carbA Honda spokesperson said, “Honda will end sales of the Prologue later this year following the completion of the 2026 model year. Prologue customers will continue to receive full support through our dealer network, including service, parts and warranty coverage.”
Born from a joint venture with General Motors, Prologue has been on the market since March 2024. As its name suggests, it was to serve as the precursor to a full range of in-house built and developed Honda 0 Series EVs. It was all but canceled entirely earlier this year, and the Acura version of the Prologue, the ZDX, was discontinued in September.
Built on the same Ultium platform as the Chevy Blazer EV and similarly sized, the Honda Prologue is produced at GM’s Ramos Arizpe Assembly Plant in Mexico, meaning it is subject to a 25% tariff when shipped to the US.

At one point in its life, the Prologue was one of the best-selling new EVs in America, but those days are gone. In the first half of 2026, Honda sold 8,407 Prologues in the US, down 48.5% from the same period last year; For perspective, the brand sold 226,114 CR-Vs in the same time period. This makes it the second slowest selling Honda, and the only Honda that sold worse was the new Prelude, which has just begun increasing production.
With all this in mind, the Prologue’s demise shouldn’t really come as a shock, especially considering how adamant Honda has been about withdrawing from the EV game. The company had EV-shutdown write-offs amounting to nearly $10 billion, and cars it was already in the process of rolling out, namely the Ohio-built Acura RSX and the Afila joint venture with Sony, will no longer be there.
Honda apparently came up with the name Prologue with the hope that it would serve as a gateway to a whole range of all-electric products. Now, it seems history will remember it as a short-lived introduction to a book that none of us will get to read, at least not yet.
