Beloved Japanese author Haruki Murakami will publish a new memoir this autumn. Abandonment of a cat: a personal story It will be published by Knopf, and translated into English by Philippe Gabriel. This memoir expands on an essay published by Murakami the new Yorker called from 2019 “Abandonment of a cat.”

This memoir will focus on what it means to be a father, exploring the relationship between the author and his own father. It’s made more relevant by the post-World War II era in Japan, and Murakami also promises a signature cat story.
