Fermin Aldeguer renews with Ducati, joins VR46 team for 2027 and 2028 seasons

Fermin Aldeguer regains official Ducati status with multi-year renewal, will race for VR46 from 2027

Fermín Aldeguer’s MotoGP future has taken a definitive turn, putting to rest the flying rumors and confirming his loyalty to Ducati for the long term. Contrary to speculation suggesting a split with the Italian manufacturer to sign directly with Valentino Rossi, Aldeguer has penned a new contract, under which he will remain a factory-supported Ducati rider until 2027 and 2028, and move from Gresini Racing to the prestigious VR46 outfit.

Aldeguerre’s new deal strengthens his position with Borgo Panigale at factory rider level, mirroring the existing terms enjoyed by Fabio di Giannantonio – including a salary matching top-tier MotoGP standards. While the MotoGP paddock is abuzz with speculation as team and rider agreements gather pace for the 2027 season, this development makes clear that Aldeguerre’s trajectory remains firmly aligned with Ducati’s factory plans. The only change on the horizon is his transfer from Gresini Racing to VR46, ensuring continuity in machinery and remuneration for Murcia’s high-class riders.

The announcement comes amid a period of uncertainty for Aldeguer, who is currently sidelined with injury. The Gresini Racing rider has been absent from recent races after suffering a spinal fracture during practice for the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen. The severity of the event, which included a dramatic elevation gain and an extended fall through the gravel of Assen – which Marc Márquez criticized as dangerous and inadequate for rider safety – has led Aldeguer to still not be physically cleared to compete. Patience and long rehabilitation are required to recover from spinal injuries, which his teammate Alex Márquez also suffered after a crash in Montmelo.

As MotoGP heads to the Sachsenring in Germany for the final round before the summer break, Aldeguer’s absence continues. Medical advice has ruled him out of action for this weekend’s German Grand Prix, extending his recovery period and delaying his return to racing form. This decision underlines the seriousness of vertebral injuries and the importance of full fitness before resuming competition at the highest level.

Aldeguer’s renewed contract with Ducati, coupled with his upcoming role in the VR46, sends a powerful message about the confidence placed by the Italian manufacturer in his talent and potential. Although transfer talk is rampant in the paddock, Aldeguer’s future is now clearly defined: factory Ducati support, a prime seat in the VR46, and the security of a multi-year deal as he prepares to return from injury.
