The MotoGP Championship Series visited the Brno Circuit last weekend. Ducati won both races, with Peco Bagnaia winning the Saturday sprint and Marc Márquez winning the Sunday GP.
Previously known for his poor qualifying efforts, Ai Ogura (Aprilia) achieved his first MotoGP pole position and broke the Brno lap record in the process. On Saturday, Ogura finished second behind Bagnaia and Marc Marquez was third. On Sunday, Ogura was again second at the flag, this time behind Marc Márquez, with Bagnaia third.
The weekend was not without high drama. Points leader Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), who had been cleaned-out by his teammate at the first corner of the previous race, crashed during Saturday’s sprint race, and, in apparent frustration, hit one of the marshals assisting Bezzecchi’s bike into the gravel trap. The FIM stewards reviewed the incident and penalized Bezzecchi by ruling that he could not start Sunday’s GP race.
Bezzecchi still leads the championship points battle, but, notably, defending champion Marc Marquez has closed to within 40 points. The championship continues next weekend in Assen.
