Brian Uriarte stormed to his first Moto3 pole position at the Sachsenring, pipping title favorite Maximo Quiles and stamping his authority in a tightly contested German Grand Prix qualifying session. Uriarte’s achievement marks a significant milestone in his budding career, as he performed under immense pressure to clinch the top spot ahead of a tight grid.
Uriarte overtook Marco Morelli and Hakim Danish in the session, who would join him on the front row after an intense Q2 battle. Uriarte’s performance was even more impressive given the technical demands of the compact Sachsenring layout, the smallest circuit on the calendar, where precision and confidence are paramount.
Maximo Quiles, who entered the weekend with a commanding championship lead close to the 100-point mark over his nearest rival, faced adversity after a heavy crash on Friday morning. Forced to fight through Q1, Quills bounced back to claim fourth place on the grid, missing the front row start by less than two tenths of a second. Despite the setback, this result is a remarkable turnaround considering his limited track time throughout the weekend.
Alvaro Carpe and Rico Salmela finished fifth and sixth respectively, both taking advantage of a tightly contested session to gain strong starting positions. Mateo Bertel finished seventh, just ahead of Jesús Ríos, who emerged as the highest placed Honda rider. Ryusei Yamanaka and Adrian Fernandez completed the top ten, ensuring a diverse mix of manufacturers and nationalities at the tail end of the grid.
The championship story took another dramatic turn when David Almansa, currently third in the standings, was forced to withdraw from the German Grand Prix due to illness. Almansa’s absence opens the door for both Quilles and Carpe to further extend their points advantage before the summer break, potentially changing the complexion of the title fight.
With the race set to start at 11:00am on Sunday, all eyes will be on Uriarte as he aims to turn his first pole into a spectacular Grand Prix victory, while Quills looks to strengthen his title credentials from the second row. The stakes have never been higher, as the Moto3 field prepares for another all-out battle at the Sachsenring.
