Other top-10 entries including seinfeld (number 1), simpsons (No. 3), to encourage (No. 4) and American edition Office (No. 6), had a lot of long runs. The American adaptation alone produced 201 episodes during its nine seasons.
Despite its short run, the British comedy series won considerable audience support and influenced television comedy for years to come.
The sitcom achieved major recognition by winning Best Situation Comedy and Best Comedy Performance at the BAFTAs three consecutive yearsamong other awards. Critics widely praised its realistic humor and mockumentary format.
This success later inspired Steve Carell’s acclaimed American adaptation for NBC. Other hit series, such as parks and Recreation, modern Family And Abbott Elementary, adopted the show Unprecedented fake style.
