Be warned, Piaggio is recalling all of its 2026 Liberty scooters due to a headlight defect

Do you have a shiny, new 2026 Piaggio Liberty 50 or 150 scooter and you live in the US? If this describes you, you should know that Piaggio Group America has just released a safety reminder For every single 2026 Liberties ever sold in our market. This problem is related to a faulty capacitor inside the headlight unit in both the 50cc and 150cc versions of the Liberty, which can affect the proper operation of both the headlights and even the instrument panel lighting.

If the headlights and/or instrument panel lighting on the scooter are not functioning properly, especially at night, it may reduce the rider’s visibility on the road, and may also increase the risk of an accident. Additionally, if the instrument panel is affected, it may affect the rider’s ability to operate their scooter safely, with the headlight on top not functioning properly.

According to Piaggio Group America records, this recall involves about 112 scooters. This includes a total of 76 of the 2026 Piaggio Liberty 150 produced between January 1, 2026, and February 2, 2026, as well as 36 of the 2026 Piaggio Liberty 50 produced between January 1, 2026, and February 2, 2026.

Piaggio Group America issued this safety recall on June 24, 2026. The company plans to inform owners registered between June 29, 2026 and July 15, 2026 about this recall. All headlamp units produced and installed after the affected date range have properly functioning capacitors installed, and therefore are not affected by this recall.

Owners of the affected scooters will be instructed to contact their local authorized Piaggio/Vespa dealer to schedule recall service, which will be provided at no charge to the customer. Service will include inspection of the headlight unit in your scooter to see if it was produced within the applicable date range. If it was so, it will be replaced with a completely new headlight unit with a properly functioning capacitor. The expected service time for this recall service is 30 minutes.
