- Aston Martin is developing a single-seat supercar.
- A new video shows the automaker testing the car on a race track in Portugal.
- Rumors suggest that the car is for an American billionaire and will produce 1,200 horsepower.
Aston Martin is building something extreme. In April, a crazy-looking prototype from the automaker was captured in a video posted on social media. It looked like a mix between a Formula 1 car and the Valkyrie, and a new video shows the automaker continuing to test the vehicle.
Aston Martin racing on the track at the Antigua International Circuit in Portugal. Ivo Matzak’s video Instagram Account, ivomat_all_about_carsCaptures the car’s glorious exhaust note, presumably from the naturally aspirated V12.
This car is also hybrid. In the April video the V12 engine shut off when the driver went off the track, while the car continued quietly on its own power.
Aston’s mystery model
Aston has not provided any details about the car to the public. The car is rumored to produce 1,200 horsepower. The 6.5-liter Cosworth V12 hybrid in the Valkyrie makes 1,160 hp, so 1,200 is quite possible.
It is probably based on a track-only version of the Valkyrie with extensive modifications. The car has an F1-inspired nose with open wishbones, in-board dampers and an air intake above the driver’s head. The car also has a halo protection device like F1.
According to April report Auto Motor and SportKen Griffin, an American billionaire and Citadel hedge fund manager, started the car once. The Aston is reportedly 10 seconds faster on the track than an F1 car.
Motor1’s Opinion: Aston Martin’s only single-seat supercar looks like the future of Formula 1. It’s crazy what automakers will create for their customers when they have deep pockets. Hopefully, we’ll know more about the car soon.
