Apateon Press Launches Republishing Program

Indie publisher Apateon Press has announced the launch of a free program for authors that will republish out-of-print books and place them on Amazon for sale.

Authors who have regained rights to their titles, previously self-published a book and wish to bring it back to market, or have a backlist of titles they would like to make available again are eligible to take part in the service.

For books accepted into the program, Apateon will prepare a new edition of the book and make it available on Amazon in either print or e-book editions. Authors can add new material to the republished version, such as interviews or author insights. There are no author fees or later chargebacks for the republication program, according to the announcement.

Under the basic agreement, authors receive a 15% royalty on gross sales based on Amazon’s retail price.

“We are in dialogue with authors with established followings, but whose books have reverted to them or gone out of print,” said Hugh Taylor, president of Apateon, in a statement. “We can put titles back in front of those audiences without requiring the authors to pay a fee for the service. This was once a prohibitively expensive proposition, but recent advances in digital publishing make free republishing feasible for books that have an audience.”
