Alvaro Carpe dominates Moto3 FP2 with stunning sub-2:05 lap time at Brno

Alvaro Carpe has shattered expectations in Brno, putting in a performance at the front of the Moto3 field that left experienced rivals in awe and sent a clear warning to anyone with an eye on Czech Grand Prix glory.

In a decisive FP2 session on Saturday at the prestigious Automotodrom Brno, Carpe, riding a Red Bull KTM Ezo, ran an emphatic 2:04.394 lap – the fastest of the weekend so far. Spaniard Max Quiles was not far behind, clocking 2:04.823 for the CFMoto Gaviota Aspar team, while Argentina’s Marco Morelli took third on another KTM machine. The top three were the only riders able to dip under the 2:05 barrier, a feat that immediately raised eyebrows in the paddock and led to a reshuffling of the list of favorites at the end of the weekend’s business.

This session was not without surprises. Malaysian star Hakim Danish, who had set the pace earlier, found himself dropped to fifth place with a time of 2:05.354 – his first session outside 2:04 this weekend. Rounding out the front-runners and the Danish were David Almansa representing Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP and Valentin Perron riding for Red Bull KTM Tech3. The top ten also included Guido Pini, Adrian Cruces, Casey O’Gorman and Scott Ogden with Danish times suggesting the battle for Q2 on Sunday will be nothing short of fierce.

Brno’s sweeping turns and notorious elevation changes have always separated the contenders from the contenders, and Saturday’s FP2 session proved to be no exception. Carpe’s performance is particularly important given the sustained competition in this year’s Moto3 campaign, where microseconds could be the difference between pole position and a midfield battle. The Czech Grand Prix has historically been a kingmaker for young talent, with past winners often achieving stardom in the higher classes. This year’s field is no exception, with rising stars desperate to get their names in the record books.

The stakes are huge. With only a few rounds left in the championship, every point, every lap matters more than ever. Carpe’s statement lap not only establishes him as the man to beat in Brno, but outshines his rivals, many of whom have already shown their talent early this season. The Spanish-KTM axis continues to dominate, but with a mix like Morelli and the Danish – both capable of causing upsets – no one can afford a single mistake.

“We’ve worked hard all weekend, and the bike felt incredible there. I knew I had to push, and I’m happy with the result, but we can’t relax – everyone is very close,” Alvaro Carpe said after the session, his confidence and focus unmistakable. Max Quiles, who finished right behind, admitted, “It’s tough out there, but I know we have a lot more to do. Tomorrow is the time when it really counts.” Hakim Danish, who is still a championship threat despite the failure, reflected, “It was not my best performance, but we will regroup and come back stronger for qualifying.”

Now all eyes are on the upcoming qualifying matches and Sunday’s main event. With the top ten separated by only one-tenth of a second, the potential for upset is very high. Carpe’s early dominance sends a clear signal, but Brno history has shown that qualifying and race day can produce unexpected drama. Relentless pace, championship pressure, and narrow margins promise a weekend of high-octane action and heartbreaks. Buckle up, Moto3 fans – Brno is set to deliver another motorsport classic.
