Apple announces Fitness+ Gym Strength program with personalized workout plans

Apple wants to help you get stronger. Apple Fitness+ is expanding to the gym with a new strength training experience. Gym Strength is now available in beta, bringing personalized workout plans, exercise demonstrations, and Apple Watch logging to your lifting routine.

Gym Strength is designed to work in real environments with a variety of equipment

Gym Strength creates progressive, four-week plans based on your strength goals, experience, schedule, and available equipment. After you complete each week of workouts, the following week adapts based on the reps and weight you logged.

The feature is designed for a range of experience levels, from people trying strength training for the first time to experienced lifters looking to make progress. It also aims to help anyone who wants to build a more consistent routine.

When building a plan, you choose your workout days and the body areas you want to focus on. You can select five exercises per workout, which Apple estimates will take about 20–30 minutes, or seven exercises for about 45–60 minutes, depending on your pace.

Each workout recommends exercises, reps, sets, and how much weight to lift.

You move through the workout at your own pace, with short video demonstrations from Apple Fitness+ trainers available for each exercise. The demonstrations can be expanded to show the movement from three different angles.

Apple says Gym Strength includes over 350 exercises across more than 30 types of strength training equipment, including dumbbells, kettlebells, suspension trainers, cable machines, and barbells. Dumbbells are the minimum equipment requirement.

Plans account for the equipment available to you, so the experience can work in a commercial gym or a home gym.

If a machine is occupied or you’re training somewhere with different equipment, you can swap equipment or choose an alternative exercise with a similar movement and body focus. You can also add sets or skip exercises.

Gym Strength requires an iPhone running iOS 27.3 or an iPad running iPadOS 27.3. AnApple Watch running watchOS 27.3 optionally lets you view exercises and log reps and weight from your wrist, while tracking heart rate and calories burned.

Gym Strength also introduces Training Note, an optional feature powered by Apple Intelligence that previews workouts, explains progression, and highlights milestones. Training Note requires an Apple Intelligence–enabled iPhone or iPad with the device set to English.

Beyond strength training

Gym Strength is included in the existing Fitness+ subscription. It joins a library of trainer-led workouts spanning 12 workout types, including Strength, HIIT, Yoga, Pilates, Core, Cycling, Rowing, Dance, Kickboxing, treadmill walking and running, and Mindful Cooldown.

Fitness+ also offers guided meditations, personalized recommendations, and Custom Plans for scheduling workouts, with new sessions added every week.

Apple Fitness+ costs $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year in the U.S., and a subscription can be shared with up to five other family members. New subscribers can try one month free, while eligible device purchases include a three-month trial.

Fitness+ is also included in Apple One Premier, which costs $39.95 per month in the U.S. and bundles Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, and 2TB of iCloud+ storage.
