2027 Audi A6 Allroad SUV goes plug-in hybrid: New PHEV's Australian price undercuts diesel by $10,000 - EV Central

Audi’s first plug-in hybrid A6 Allroad will become the entry point to its new-generation high-riding wagon range in Australia, priced from $127,900 before on-road costs.

Due locally in the first half of 2027, the A6 Allroad e-hybrid quattro will offer a claimed electric driving range of up to 87km and cost $10,000 less than the diesel model arriving alongside it.

The fifth-generation Allroad expands the Australian line-up from one diesel variant to a choice of petrol-electric plug-in hybrid and diesel mild-hybrid powertrains.

The Allroad is the first member

The Allroad is the first member of the new-generation A6 family confirmed for Australia, with local introductions of the conventional A6 sedan and Avant wagon still unannounced.

Audi Australia also cancelled plans to introduce the fully electric A6 and S6 e-tron range in November 2025, citing limited demand for large luxury electric passenger cars.

The A6 Allroad also returns to a segment with few direct competitors in Australia. Traditional high-riding wagon rivals including the Volvo V90 Cross Country and Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain have disappeared from local showrooms, while the BYD Seal 6 Touring offers a much cheaper plug-in hybrid wagon alternative from $39,990 plus on-road costs.

The previous Australian A6 Allroad range comprised

The previous Australian A6 Allroad range comprised the 45 TDI quattro, last listed at $126,484 before on-road costs. That puts the new PHEV just $1416 above its predecessor’s entry price, while the replacement diesel rises $11,416 to $137,900.

Audi says the new range includes more than $10,000 in additional standard equipment compared with its predecessor.

The e-hybrid combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, producing combined outputs of 270kW and 500Nm. Drive goes to all four wheels through Audi’s quattro system.

Its battery has a gross capacity of 25.9kWh

Its battery has a gross capacity of 25.9kWh and usable capacity of 20.7kWh. The Australian release quotes an electric range of up to 87km under ADR 81/02 laboratory testing, with actual driving range dependent on conditions.

Home and public AC charging equipment is included, along with cabin preconditioning. Drivers can select electric or hybrid operating modes.

While Audi has previously offered plug-in hybrid versions of other A6 models overseas and in the latest A5, Q5, Q8 ands RS5 offered here, this is the first time the technology has been fitted to the Allroad.

The alternative A6 Allroad TDI quattro uses

The alternative A6 Allroad TDI quattro uses a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 producing 220kW and 580Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

That compares with the previous 45 TDI’s 183kW and 600Nm, delivered through an eight-speed conventional automatic. The new diesel therefore gains 37kW but loses 20Nm.

Its mild-hybrid system includes a belt alternator starter and powertrain generator, while an electrically powered compressor is designed to improve response at low engine speeds.

Both new variants have adaptive air suspension and all-wheel steering as standard.

The suspension offers a 55mm adjustment range, lowering

The suspension offers a 55mm adjustment range, lowering the body by 20mm in dynamic mode or raising it by 15mm in the offroad settings. A lift function increases ride height by 35mm above the normal setting at speeds up to 35km/h.

Rear-wheel steering reduces the turning circle to a claimed 11.4 metres, with the rear wheels turning in the opposite direction to the fronts at low speeds and in the same direction at higher speeds.

The new body is also 84mm wider than its predecessor, with more pronounced wheelarches and a wider track.

Australian diesel models have 20-inch alloy wheels, while

Australian diesel models have 20-inch alloy wheels, while the PHEV receives 21-inch wheels and red brake callipers. Matrix LED headlights, black exterior detailing and black roof rails are standard.

Inside, both versions include Nappa leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions, four-zone climate control and a panoramic glass roof with switchable transparency.

The dashboard combines an 11.9-inch digital instrument display, a 14.5-inch central OLED touchscreen and a separate 10.9-inch front passenger screen.

A head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android

A head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cooled wireless phone charging and a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system are also included.

Standard safety equipment includes nine airbags, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise assistance, lane assistance, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic assistance, a 360-degree camera and a front dashcam.

A $9900 Premium package adds digital Matrix LED headlights, digital OLED rear lights, power-latching doors, a heated steering wheel, heated outer rear seats, an electrically adjustable steering column, additional parking functions and rear-door sunblinds. A separate customised contour seats package costs $500.

The new A6 Allroad carries a five-year vehicle warranty. Audi says further details on ordering and Australian launch arrangements will be announced closer to its arrival.
