Seeking to draw attention to the budget is generally a fool’s errand, or at least a contradiction in terms. Watches are one of the few corners of menswear where exclusivity still holds real importance. From time to time, Timex reminds everyone that good taste doesn’t require four digits.
Brand has made a habit of handing the keys over to Todd Snyder, who likes to dig through the archives to resurface hits. Almost every collaboration falls somewhere between “instant classic” and “sends that sell out quickly”. And friends, Marlin Mesh continues that trend.
Let’s start with the face. Marlin’s 38mm case is as versatile as the watch size. It is neither too hot nor too cold and will not put pressure on the wrist or disappear into the wrist. A vintage-style dome adds warmth to the acrylic crystal dial, while the polished stainless steel case keeps it crisp and not looking too dated.
But if you came for the vintage-inspired Marlin face and case, you’ll stay for the stainless-steel mesh band, an archival reference to one of Snyder’s favorite vintage models and the rare type of band that has the ability to outlive the main character.
