Ryan Gosling's vintage Ralph Lauren jacket makes a splash at Comic-Con

Imagine it’s a Saturday afternoon and you’re sitting in the Marvel audience at Comic-Con 2026. Ryan Gosling, dressed in a red denim jacket, white tee and navy slacks, makes a surprise appearance, and the crowd goes wild when he announces he’s going to play Ghost Rider in a new reboot. It’s question-and-answer time. Mike changes your direction. You ask him the burning question: “Is that a vintage Ralph Lauren jacket from the 1980s?”

Sadly, we’re not Ryan Gosling, nor were we there (ticket prices these days! Crazy!), but we can answer that question: Yes. mark averyGosling’s longtime stylist told us himself. “It’s a vintage polo from a flea market on Long Island, purchased a few years ago,” he says.

With its cropped length and raised collar to show off the beige suede lining, it felt like a cross between rebel-era James Dean and Polo Bear. “James Dean always has an influence,” Avery explains, “but the process is less deliberate, and sometimes you only take a look and notice the influence later.”

This look shows Gosling’s brilliant timing. Everyone and their dad is turning up their collars right now – just last week, in fact, Colman Domingo flipped the collar of a Ralph Lauren jacket and polo, staying just the right side of preppy. Similarly, turn-up collars were seen at London Fashion Week in February as well as on the recent runways of Bottega Veneta and Willy Chavarria.

While a denim chore coat is always a safe, handsome bet for any guy, it feels a long way from Ghost Rider’s edgy leather biker. Is the demon motorcyclist ready to change things? Will he stick to the pseudo-fetish attire he’s known for, or will we see a Ghost Rider with an active Vinted account and a thing for soft vintage workwear? “I can’t say anything about this ghost rider jacket yet, but you can rest assured that every detail will be considered,” says Avery. Then he teases Gosling Other Major franchise blockbusters of next year Star Wars: Starfighter: “I can’t wait for the world to see star wars jacket!”

ghost rider However, this is the story of an all-American hero – a story Ralph Lauren has been telling for decades. Now beloved by Gen Z, the brand’s vintage grails are worth a fortune on the resale market. A neat play by Gosling, instead of something new, digging out an actual vintage, time-worn, ’80s classic from the Lauren archives.
