Work And mare of easttown Creator Brad Inglesby has a superpower, and it’s oddly specific: The guy is incredibly good at writing bleak detective shows set in the darker corners of blue-collar Philly. even if Work Couldn’t reach the insane heights of mare of easttownIt was still one of the TV highlights of 2025. The HBO series had almost everything: Mark Ruffalo nailing it as nihilistic FBI agent Tom Brandis, an equally brilliant villain role from Tom Pelphrey, awesome cinematography, and killer twists to boot. It was even bleaker than the day your childhood dog died — but that was a feature, not a bug.
the show was so So awesome—and so well-received—although it was initially announced as a miniseries, HBO greenlit a second season shortly after the first season ended. Another surprising and unconventional development soon occurred: e.g. Diversity informed Earlier this month, Julianne Nicholson is joining Work Cast as Lori Ross, the character she first played mare-The best friend of Kate Winslet’s titular detective.
We’re in for a Marvel-style crossover event, but make it prestige TV. But in this case, it feels like much more than just smashing together survival-hopeless toys. The two shows have so many similarities that it makes a lot of sense to imagine them existing in the same world for starters, and it’s not like either of them lose anything with the merger. And in return for whatever gives Nicholson more screen time. Real second season of mare-Sounds absolutely fine to us.
There’s no word yet on when or how Nicholson’s Lullaby will be released Work Season Two – All that is known about the plot is a short, apparently vague logline. It reads, “Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo) takes command of a new task force, but the deeper the operation goes, the harder it is to tell who the target is.” wow, don’t tell us Very excess!
Elsewhere, it’s a big change from top to bottom for the series’ ensemble, with Ruffalo being the only holdover from season one, at least as far as we know. fortunately, Work has recruited some super-high-caliber new names: Signed Statements should be an Oscar-winner (and). true Detective alum) Mahershala Ali. He will reportedly play Eddie Barnes, “an experienced and respected DEA agent in Philadelphia” who clashes with Brandis and his team.
Elsewhere, amazing character actors like back seatHarry Melling and ChernobylAdam Ngaitis makes a similarly attractive addition. Of course, there’s no word on the possibility of another appearance by Kate Winslet, aka Mare – but given the shared universe of it all, you never know.
