Arsenal are set to target Aston Villa's Morgan Rodgers in transfer bid worth more than £100million

Arsenal are preparing to ignite the summer transfer market with a sensational move for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rodgers, targeting the dynamic England international as their primary attacking recruit. The north London club’s determination to secure Rodgers comes despite Aston Villa’s firm stance that the 23-year-old is not for sale, a position strengthened after penning a new contract until 2031 last November. Nevertheless, the growing interest and the precedent set by blockbuster deals for Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali means any negotiations for Rodgers are expected to command staggering fees, which could potentially exceed £100 million.

Although Arsenal have yet to open formal talks with Villa, there are growing fears that an approach is imminent following England’s World Cup exit and the Gunners’ agreement on a £34 million deal for Christos Tzolis. Rodgers, who has risen rapidly from a promising talent at Middlesbrough – where he arrived for £16million in 2024 – to full England international with 21 caps, is now at the center of a transfer tug-of-war. His exploits last season – scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 55 matches – did not go unnoticed, attracting the attention of Arsenal as well as Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Rodgers further raised his profile during the 2026 World Cup, making five appearances and providing a vital assist for Anthony Gordon in England’s semi-final defeat against Argentina. His ability to perform on the biggest stage cements his reputation as one of English football’s most versatile and valuable young attackers.

Analysis from Sky Sports’ Sam Blitz highlights Arsenal’s tactical vision for Rodgers, with the club seeing him as a solution on the left wing. With the departure of Leandro Trossard and the arrival of Tzolis, Mikel Arteta is reshaping the left side of his squad, and Rodgers’ adaptability – having played as a winger, false nine and attacking midfielder – makes him an ideal candidate. The Blitz noted that almost 45 percent of Rodgers’ Premier League minutes last season were spent as a left winger, underscoring his ability to thrive in Arteta’s system.

Arsenal’s search for attacking reinforcements does not end with Rodgers. The Gunners remain interested in Julian Alvarez, although the deal appears to be complicated due to Alvarez’s family preference for Spain and his desire to join Barcelona. PSG’s Bradley Barcola is also on Arsenal’s radar, but talks have not yet started, with PSG themselves exploring options in the market, including a move for RB Leipzig’s Yann Diomande and showing interest in both Alvarez and Rodgers.

Aston Villa’s determination not to sell is clear, but with Arsenal and other European giants circling, the saga surrounding Rodgers is set to become one of the defining stories of the transfer window.
