Dwayne Johnson wore a unique 'Moana' inspired watch

New Live-Action Reviews Moana The film isn’t dazzling but there is at least one surprising thing to come out of the film. Dwayne Johnson’s vendetta against the god Maui is fully justified by his exclusive $265,000 Jacob & Co. Matai Tourbillon, inspired by his character’s tattoo.

Released ahead of the premiere of Moana II, the Matai Tourbillon is big, bold, and proud: at 45mm in 18K pink gold, it’s almost as subtle as a dying star, and it also includes a matching multi-link brick-style rose-gold bracelet. The watch was designed by Jacob & Co., Johnson and the actor’s stylist Ilaria Urbinati. The dial of the watch pays special homage to Johnson’s Samoan heritage and in particular his character Maui. Moana Film series. The black dial features designs that reflect Johnson’s tribal tattoo-patterns which he has said were inspired by his heritage, culture, family and victories over his life’s struggles. In MoanaMaui’s tattoos come to life in some scenes.

The clock is also a mechanical powerhouse. A skeletonized pink-gold handset and a minute flying tourbillon dial manage to do their respective jobs without disrupting the art, especially given that the latter’s cage has been carefully skeletonized in a pattern that complements the dial’s large tattoo motif. Powered by a hand-wound movement with a 60-hour power reserve, an earlier version of the Matai Tourbillon was originally seen on Johnson’s wrist. Moana II Premiering in 2024 on a black crocodile leather strap with pink gold and titanium deployant clasp. However, since then, it seems to have been paired with its aforementioned bracelet, which is reminiscent of the bracelet seen on some Patek Philippe Grand Complications like the 5270. a truly piece unique Designed for Johnson, the watch exists – as far as we can tell – in only one example.

Johnson is a watch aficionado, having worn important timepieces from Chopard, TAG Heuer, IWC, Rolex, Panerai and of course Jacob & Co. Earlier this year, she wore a $3 million diamond-encrusted Billionaire III to the Met Gala. Still, this Matai Tourbillon is definitely better than the rest because it is completely unique and made special for Johnson. As spectacular as the Alpine Eagle, Carrera Glassbox, GMT-Master II, Luminor Marina and Billionaire III, they are still serially produced models designed by dedicated watch designers.

The Matai Tourbillon was designed from the ground up to pay homage to Johnson’s (and, by extension, Maui’s) heritage. Arbati said in 2022, “We wanted to pay homage to the beloved character of Maui that Dwayne helped make so iconic, and merge that design with Dwayne’s personal tattoo to make it very personal.”
