Former WWE Champion confirms his departure

A former WWE Champion and future Hall of Famer has confirmed his departure from the company.

Last week, news broke that four-time World Champion Sheamus was leaving WWE after turning down a restructured contract offer. The 48-year-old was one of WWE’s longest-tenured Superstars, having joined the promotion in 2007.

On Friday, “The Celtic Warrior” confirmed his exit and said goodbye to WWE with this Instagram post:

His departure is puzzling for many reasons. For starters, this is a longtime fan favorite who has built a stellar Hall of Fame resume. Additionally, Sheamus announced that he has signed a five-year contract extension with WWE through January 2025.

Sheamus had been sidelined since late November after recovering from a serious shoulder injury. His last match was on November 17, teaming with John Cena and Rey Mysterio in a winning effort against Judgment Day.

Although Sheamus is a contender for the WWE Hall of Fame, there is one thing missing from his wrestling resume. Unfortunately, he fell just short of completing a WWE Grand Slam, and was never able to capture the Intercontinental Championship.

The blame falls on WWE for never booking Sheamus as champion, especially when they had countless opportunities to do so in 2024 and 2025.

The New Day, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Kairi Sane, Apollo Cruz and Sheamus along with Wyatt Six are the latest notable WWE talents to leave after WrestleMania 42.
