The US midsize pickup truck segment is starting to cool off. Sales of the Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma and GMC Canyon will increase significantly in Q2 2026 compared to Q2 2025. However, sales of the Ford Ranger and most others declined. Here are all the details. Let’s dig!
The Toyota Tacoma continues to hold its edge over the competition. This could be another record-setting sales year for the Tacoma in the US, with Tacoma sales up nearly 5% last quarter. The Nissan Frontier continues to impress. It’s a more affordable pickup with competitive features and capability. The Frontier is currently in the third sales spot, but if this sales growth continues – it could knock the Chevy Colorado out of second place.
The Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, Honda Ridgeline and Jeep Gladiator all saw declines in numbers. The decline in sales of the Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator is particularly notable. At present it is not clear why these sales figures are like this.

The Ford Maverick is now the only compact pickup on the market. Hyundai Santa Cruz is being discontinued. Maverick’s overall sales numbers appear to be plateauing. Nevertheless, the Maverick outsold the Ford Ranger by approximately 3-to-1. It sold more than the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon combined.
