Motorcycle safety instructor dragged to death by hit-and-run driver. Can you help?

Bryce Wolf, a 20-year-old man from Luzerne County, Philadelphia, was recently killed in a hit-and-run accident. These types of incidents basically always involve someone devoid of human decency, but this particular accident was even worse, and it was even worse considering everything Wolfe did to stay safe on the roads.

The incident occurred last Wednesday when Wolfe was riding a motorcycle on Kelly Drive around 11:15 p.m. Wolfe was hit by a white SUV that police suspect was attempting an illegal turn onto Reservoir Drive. Investigators suspect that the driver tried to merge back into traffic after failing to complete the turn, at which point the driver struck Wolfe.

What makes this hit-and-run even more serious is that authorities allege the driver did not stop after the collision, and instead dragged Wolfe for more than a mile until he became separated from the vehicle near Fountain Green Drive, before the SUV fled the scene. Wolfe was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with a broken leg and head injuries, although he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Initially, Wolfe was listed in critical condition, but he was pronounced dead just before 5 a.m. Thursday. He had recently completed his sophomore year at Temple University’s Fox School of Business, but he also worked as a motorcycle safety instructor. In fact, at only 20 years old, Wolfe had already instructed a Philadelphia police officer, making him one of the youngest motorcycle instructors ever. Of course, these incidents can happen to any rider, but when it happens to someone who is a safety instructor, it seems even more shocking.

He loved helping everybody,” said his mother, Lori Wolfe, “and he thought it was very important to teach people how to be safe on the road.” “He never went out on that bike without full gear… He used to say, ‘You dress for the slide, you don’t dress for the ride,'” Lori said.

Police believe the white SUV may have damage to the driver’s side front wheel, fender and/or driver’s side door, and the driver’s side window may be broken. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward and are asking local body shops to be on alert for a white SUV which may have possible damage to the driver’s side. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS. Wolfe’s family is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver.
