Warning: The following contains spoilers dragon house Season 3, Episode 3
Who Knew Rhaenyra (emma d’arcy) Will your first day on the job as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms involve trying to put out so many fires? (This seems to be the opposite of House Targaryen-way Love Fire.)
dragon house Season 3, Episode 3 focuses on our queen as she juggles the responsibilities of rule while still coping with her grief. The undercurrent of tension throughout comes across well on screen as Rhaenyra is beset with one problem after another. Of course, this doesn’t help Damon (Matt Smith) is whispering in her ear that she is merely a deity walking among mortals.
Although it’s not as action-packed as its predecessors, there’s still a lot to love about this outing. Here are the highlights (if you want):
Ormond and Damon’s meeting
Ollie Upton/HBO
Ormund (james norton) Finally getting to do more. At the beginning of the episode, in the only scene outside the Red Keep, Daemon informs Ormond of Rhaenyra’s ascension. Ormund kneels and swears to serve him Before handing over to Deron (Charlie Gordon) as a political prisoner.
From the beginning, you know that Ormund is lying about his allegiance to Rhaenyra. If he hadn’t, the war would have ended there, and there would have been no fourth season. Needless to mention, something is wrong with Deron. Why is his dragon, Tesarion, not fazed by his kidnapping? It’s a great setup for what’s to come.
Alicent went on Rhaenyra (at least at first)

Ollie Upton/HBO
Although it’s brief, we get a glimpse of Alicent in Season 1, Episode 6 and 7 (olivia cook), otherwise known as “It’s Trampled Under Your Pretty Foot Again” Alicent. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but it exists. Alicent and Rhaenyra are to some extent She becomes hostile when Rhaenyra accuses her of everything. Naturally, Aliscent isn’t too thrilled about Rhaenyra beheading her father. However, later in the episode she easily puts it aside and apologizes for her harsh treatment of Rhaenyra. That Part I was not like. Please, bring back Angry Alicent, and thank you.
Rhaenyra’s Rat Party

Ollie Upton/HBO
To bring the lords and ladies of the realm to her side, Rhaenyra feeds them cooked rats, killing two birds with one stone: she eliminates the rat infestation of the Red Keep And Brings nobility to heel. In my humble opinion, this is one of her finest moments, in which she actually – wait for it – plays Game of Thrones. Ser Torhen Manderly (dan fogler) also seemed to be enjoying it. Then, Rhaenyra distributed the goods stolen by the nobles among the small people of King’s Landing, ensuring that she had more supporters.
“Bastard!”

Ollie Upton/HBO
Corliss (steve toussaint) carries on the time-honored tradition of House Valyrian loudly declaring that Rhaenyra’s three sons of the ex-Daemon were (and are) bastards. Remember Waymond (Will Johnson) from Season 1? He lost his head, but at least he kept his tongue. It’s thoroughly gratifying to see Corliss giving Rhaenyra business. There’s no sense in refusing Corliss’s request, especially after everything he’s done for her. Joffrey (oscar eskinazi) is not required to inherit both the Iron Throne and the Driftmark.
Best laid plans…

Ollie Upton/HBO
As it turns out, Deron is not In fact Deron. Before Rhaenyra sends him to the Wall, she allows him one last reunion with Alicent. Naturally, Alicent knows that this boy is not her son. The boy admitted that Ormund made him bleach his hair and threatened him into compliance. So, the real Daeron is still with the Hightower host. As if that’s not enough, Rhaenyra learns from a dragonkeeper that Ormond has taken Tumbleton. It’s a one-two punch of deception courtesy of Team Green’s new MVP. Here’s hoping these revelations force a rageful Rhaenyra to emerge.
dragon house New episodes air every Sunday at 9PM ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max.
