All the Bizarre Books I Read in June, and What's on My July TBR

My heart arrester The hyperfixation continues – which is no surprise, as the final book and movie will be out in just a few weeks. To be honest, my reading lately has mostly been in the fanfiction realm, but my passion led me to pick up a few books in June.

i was born for this cover

was the first i was born for thisThe only book by Alice Osman that I had not read before. I loved it: It’s an exploration of fans and celebrity, with POVs alternating between a die-hard fangirl (who is supposed to be Ero/Ace) and a queer, trans boyband member struggling with his mental health. It was a real page turner.

Then, I picked up some graphic novels that looked like good Heartstopper reads: Please check! Book 1: #Hockey By Ngozi Ukazu, Cheer up: love and pomp by Crystal Frazier, and bloom By Kevin Panetta. was my favorite Cheer up: love and pompWhich is Sapphic and has a trans girl as the lead character. It’s very short, but the characterization is strong, and I loved the dynamics between the love relationships.

As of last month’s update, I finished taiwan travelogue by Yang Shuang-zi, translated by Lin Qing, which won the 2026 International Booker Prize and the 2024 National Book Award for Translated Literature. It was more accessible than I expected, and I was thrilled by the complex dynamics between Chizuko and Chizuru. I recommended this to my book club, and I can’t wait to discuss it with them.

Speaking of book club, I read Sapphic YA fantasy career war By Nina Varela for our June meeting. I’ve heard amazing things about it, but I wasn’t a fan. A lot hinges on the romance, and I didn’t buy the chemistry between them.

I also picked up unbeatable sonya ballantine by Sonya Ballantyne, which is a short YA graphic memoir about a bisexual Indigenous writer. This seemed a bit disjointed to me.

As far as my July reading plans are concerned, nothing is decided. I am still planning to study The way disabled people love each other By Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha – and hopefully soon, because my library has expired…

like my next book club How far the light reaches: one life in ten sea creatures By Sabrina Imbler, which I’ve already read, but I might read it again. I especially recommend audiobooks for this. As a weirdo who has had a lifelong fascination with the high seas, I couldn’t resist this memoir in essays.

Speaking of sea animals, I also want to read jellyfish problem Written by Tessa Yang, which is a Sapphic novel that is also about a giant jellyfish terrorizing an island community. sold.

Also on top of my list Queer and How We Got Here: A (Personal) History by Hazel Newlevant, a graphic nonfiction book that weaves together strange history and memoir.

How are you? What are you reading in July and what did you accomplish in June?
