All elite wrestling is ready to go forbidden doorNew Japan Pro Wrestling, its cross-promotional event with CMLL and Stardom, will take place this Sunday, June 28 at the SAP Center in San Jose. The nine-match main card will be preceded by a free “buy in” featuring Divine Dominion defending the AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship against the team of Thunder Rosa and Olympia.
I’m not going to spoil the preshow, but I will say that Megan Bayne and Lena Cross successfully defended their titles. For the main PPV, my predictions are as follows:
The Young Bucks vs. Místico and Máscara Dorada vs. Shingo Takagi and Titan
I’m sure there will be plenty of action in this match, but there are no bets. It is basically a showcase for various promotions. This is a good spot for CMLL to get some shine with Místico pinning Takagi. Winners: Místico and Máscara Dorada
Jon Moxley (c) vs. Bandido: AEW Continental Championship Match
This match took place last week and should be another good match. Moxley is doing strong work right now, especially in his storyline with Will Ospreay, and I don’t see him losing in a hastily booked match with Bandido. Winner: Jon Moxley
Shota Umino (c) vs. PAC: IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship Match
It is telling that NJPW is sending its No. 2 champion to this show, while current IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji is nowhere to be seen. Pac is a phenomenal talent, but he doesn’t feel like a main eventer on AEW’s stacked roster. He and Umino should have another entertaining match, but the belt is not changing hands. Winner: Shota Umino
mercedes monay vs maya world
It’s been amazing for Maya World to reach the Owen Hart Cup finals, but the AEW women’s division has languished without Monae and Toni Storm. Monet wins here and gets his first world title in AEW in all. Winner:Mercedes Monae
Adam Copeland and Christian Cage (c) vs. The Dogs: AEW World Tag Team Championship Match
This just seems like a placeholder feud for Cope and Cage until we get the inevitable confrontation with The Young Bucks, and hopefully The New Day as well. Winner: Adam Copeland and Christian Cage
Kenny Omega vs. Zack Saber Jr.
This is easily the most interesting of the cross-promotional matches, and as a result, the hardest to call. Whatever happens here, I can see these two making it back in allWhich is happening in London. AEW likes to bring in local talents like Saber to their big shows. Omega wins here, allowing Saber to get her revenge at the big show. Winner: Kenny Omega
Thekla (c) vs. Starlight Kid: AEW Women’s World Championship Match
Although her reign has been weak, Thekla is a good talent and a fun promo. He has captured the title here, setting up a match with Mone in London. Winner: Thekla
MJF, Kevin Knight, Jake Doyle, Andrade El Idolo, Kyle Fletcher, and Kazuchika Okada vs. Mark Briscoe, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, Darby Allin, Roderick Strong, and Konosuke Takeshita: Steel Cage Match
A patented AEW “All-Star Tag” match with the stipulation that if Mark Briscoe’s team won, he would get a title shot against MJF. There are a lot of issues involved in this match, including Allin and Knight, and Fletcher and Takeshita. The ongoing storyline between MJF and Andrade should also increase before the upcoming Grand Slam: Mexico Show in August. Winner: Team Briscoe
swerve strickland vs will ospreay
In a PPV that highlights the story and stakes, Strickland and Ospreay have both, which their excellent performances drove home gunpowder Confrontation. This should be the main event of the show. Under other circumstances, I could see this match going either way. With the Owen Hart Cup winner getting a title shot in allHowever, this is the next step in crowning Ospreay the AEW World Champion in front of his home country. Winner: Will Ospreay
