Jay-Z’s year of crime continues. Today marks its official 30th anniversary reasonable doubt And with fans gearing up for Jigga Summer with his impending takeover of Yankee Stadium for an entire weekend in July, it appears Jay has plans to hang out in the autumn as well. HBO has just announced a new documentary, Jay-Z in 8Directed by Rick Rubin where the renowned rapper and renowned producer sit down in a simply opulent and ornate setting to discuss Jay’s “music, lyrics, life experiences and creative process.”
This is a big deal for the simple fact that Jay doesn’t really talk at all. Before his April GQ cover story, it had been almost a decade since his last honest-to-goodness interview. Now he’s used to talking, and talking to yappers like Rick Rubin. Eight-Part Series.
Jay and Rick are no strangers when it comes to talking on camera. Rick provides one of the most memorable scenes from Jay’s 2004 documentary Fade to Black when he emphasizes Jay’s process as they create “99 Problems”. Years later in 2013, when Jay-Z wanted to give fans a glimpse into his mindset Magna Carta…Holy Grail At the sessions, they created a commercial series where they played Rick’s finished album and he exposed the themes behind some of the tracks.
The teaser is light but once again it feels like that EightThe one-part series – which Rick also directed – is going to provide a lot of insight into the art, and will also feature Jay’s intimate thoughts on the myriad of stuff revolving around him over the past few years. Who knows what next groundbreaking venture the Year of Crime will bring us… maybe new music? Fingers crossed, until then, check out the trailer below.
