LS2 launches ultra-fast photochromic visor that darkens in less than a tenth of a second

LS2 has unveiled one of the most interesting helmet technologies in recent years. The new system, called Irid Dynamic Visor, is designed to instantly adapt to changing lighting conditions, giving riders optimal visibility without the need to change visors or wear sunglasses during the ride.

Its distinguishing feature is its remarkable response speed. According to the LS2, the photochromic visor can adjust its color in just 0.09 seconds, making it particularly useful when entering or exiting tunnels, riding on heavily shaded roads or dealing with rapidly changing weather conditions.

Unlike many electronic systems currently available, the Irid Dynamic Visor does not require batteries. The operation is controlled by a completely mechanical system combined with a discreet photovoltaic panel mounted on the top of the visor. This makes the liquid crystal film responsible for changing tint levels, eliminating charging requirements and keeping overall weight to a minimum.

Weighing only 20 grams, the visor has been developed to avoid affecting the balance of the helmet or adding noticeable mass. Light transmission automatically varies between 60% and 20%, allowing seamless adaptation to different lighting conditions during the ride.

The LS2 also highlights the visor’s ability to deal with adverse weather. It is completely waterproof and includes an integrated anti-fog system designed to maintain clear vision in humid or cold environments. According to the manufacturer, the anti-fog treatment has been tested to remain effective for up to 120 seconds in harsh conditions.

Initially, the Irid Dynamic Visor will not be available as a standalone accessory. Its commercial debut takes place exclusively on the flagship Thunder GP aero helmet, a model developed for high performance and sport riding applications. Buyers will be able to choose between clear and dark base visor versions, both equipped with the new technology.

With the Irid Dynamic Visor, the LS2 aims to raise the level of rider comfort and convenience by offering a solution that automatically reacts to changing light conditions without adding complexity. The result is a hatchback that combines speed, practicality and lightweight construction in a package that could prove highly attractive to both daily riders and long-distance touring enthusiasts.
