Anyone who grew up in the 1990s knows the MTV show donkey. It centers around a group of adventurers willing to do almost anything to get a laugh or a gasp. The show was so popular that it spawned a series of movies, as well as the careers of some interesting characters, including Chris Pontius, aka “Party Boy”.
Pontius will star in another MTV show, wildboyswith jackass alum steve o. The show was similar to Jackass in that Pontius and Steve-O would do strange things that would put them in danger. But in this case, crashing shopping carts into cars and running down random city streets in a thong and bowtie has been replaced by trying to lure sharks and lions for laughs.
Since then, Pontius has kept busy by starring in more Jackass content, being a parent, and sharing his love of knives Instagram. This fascination with sharp things – and being known around the world for his antics – earned him a place at the table from knife maker and one-part master. giantmouse knife, JasPer voxness. together, they came together PontiusA full-size adventure-ready EDC knife featuring a harpoon-style ELMAX blade and a variety of handle materials.

Pontius is a complete, four-fingered folding knife designed for everyday carry, outdoor adventures, and any other wild ideas you can cook up to using the four-fingered knife with premium ELMAX powder steel.
Available with green G10 ($285), black Micarta ($285), or raw titanium ($335) handle scales, the knife’s handle flows from tail to tip with a swell in the middle and an oversized choil for maximum blade control. The choil liner also allows easy access to the lock, which holds the 3.2-inch harpoon-style ELMAX blade in place.

Additionally, the Pontius has steel liners to enhance the overall structure of the knife to meet your demands. There is also a traditional wire-gate pocket clip for deeper carry and easy retrieval. Overall, this knife is meant to get the job done.
first impressions

I’m a big fan of Chris Pontius as well as Elmax Steel. Both have proven that they can overcome anything and be ready for the next adventure.
ELMAX is a super-steel known for its balance of corrosion resistance, toughness and edge retention. The trade-off is that it may be more bear-like to accelerate, but that’s all right for me. Knowing that this knife can be used in any and all environments is ultimately appealing. Considering the fact that Pontius was inspired by hunting knives, poukos, and skinning knives when working with Voxness to create this knife, it was the perfect choice for steel.
That said, you can’t go wrong with a G10 or Micarta for a knife designed for a lifetime of adventures. Not only are they both incredibly strong materials, but they also both offer incredible grip. Titanium is even stronger and makes a great knife handle, but it won’t be as strong as the other two.
kick

Kickstarter campaign for Pontius Started on Friday, June 5th. As of Monday, June 8, Knives had been fully funded, more than four times over. Anyone interested in this knife should consider supporting the Kickstarter for the following reasons:
- It’s cheaper during the Kickstarter campaign
- First edition versions will be signed by Chris Pontius
- Supporters get a wicked cool EDC coin
in conclusion

Overall, I like the size and shape of the Pontius, especially when paired with the materials and build quality. I haven’t been able to get my hands on one yet, but I imagine when I do, it’ll be hard to get hold of, because I’ll be too busy testing it to the limit in the wild.
Knowing that Pontius designed this knife after years of experience, I am confident that it will have a positive impact on anyone who uses it. Being created by Giantmouse further stratifies that idea.
I think this type of knife could be a useful tool for people who want to rely on a single knife when out exploring. Its construction is sturdy and reliable, and the materials are ready for anything you can throw at them.
Some will scoff at the price, others will happily pay for this premium experience. Either way, Giantmouse Pontius is going to have 15 minutes and then some.
